Privacy Policy
Bingecast doesn't collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us by default. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Two features send limited data only if you turn them on โ new-episode push notifications (part of Bingecast Pro) and crash reporting. Both are off by default and explained below.
What the app does over the network
When you subscribe to a podcast, Bingecast fetches the RSS feed and audio files directly from whatever server the show's publisher hosts them on. Those connections go from your device to the publisher โ we don't see them, proxy them, or log them.
When you search for a podcast, the search query is sent to Apple's public iTunes Search API. That request goes directly from your device to Apple.
What stays on your device
Your subscriptions, playback positions, downloaded episode files, and any other settings live only on the iPhone where you installed Bingecast. Nothing is uploaded.
New-episode notifications (opt-in, Bingecast Pro)
Bingecast Pro can alert you the moment a podcast you follow publishes a new episode. Because that notification has to reach your device even when the app isn't running, it's the one feature that relies on a server we operate. It stays off unless you subscribe to Bingecast Pro and turn notifications on in Settings โ Notifications.
When it's on, your device registers with our push server and we store only what's needed to deliver those alerts:
- An Apple push token โ an anonymous identifier Apple issues for your device. It isn't tied to your name, email, or Apple ID.
- The podcast feed URLs you've chosen to be notified about, so the server knows which shows to watch for new episodes on your behalf.
- A timestamp of your device's most recent check-in, used only to expire inactive devices.
That's the entire list. We don't collect your name, email, Apple ID, IP address, location, or any listening activity โ playback positions and history never leave your device. The server checks the relevant feeds on a schedule and, when it finds a new episode, asks Apple's Push Notification service to deliver the alert. The server runs on Vercel with a Neon database.
Your token and feed list are deleted as soon as you turn notifications off or let Bingecast Pro lapse; individual feed URLs drop off when you unsubscribe from that show. Everything is also removed automatically after 60 days if your device stops checking in. Nothing stored on the server can be connected back to you personally.
Crash reports (opt-in, off by default)
Bingecast can optionally send anonymous crash reports to help us diagnose problems. It's turned off by default. If you turn it on in Settings โ About โ Send crash reports, the app uses Sentry to collect crash data when something goes wrong.
A crash report includes: the stack trace, the device model, the iOS version, and the app version and build number. It does not include your IP address, Apple ID, location, podcast listening history, or any other personal data. You can turn crash reporting back off at any time from the same Settings row, and no further events will be sent.
Data already received by Sentry is retained per their policies (30 days on the free tier we use).
Children
Because we don't collect data by default, we don't collect data from children either. The app is generally suitable for all ages, but podcast content itself is whatever the shows you subscribe to choose to publish.
Changes
If this policy ever changes โ for example, if a future version of the app adds analytics โ this page will be updated with the new terms and the date above.
